Drop goal seals victory for Wolves

The Red Devils were handed another tough punishment tonight in the form of a tremendous fight back by the Warrington Wolves and a Chris Sandow last second drop goal to seal victory.
Despite the home side leading 30-12 with 20 minutes remaining of the game, three quick tries from the Wolves took the score level before Sandow kicked a fantastic drop goal from 35m out to win the game.
The Red Devils started well as a penalty gave them good field position for Junior Sa’u to break through to score his first of the game. Michael Dobson converted the try.
Warrington responded minutes later through Jack Hughes and then Ben Currie, with both tries converted by Sandow to take the lead.
Kevin Penny looked to be over again for the Wolves minutes later but the video referee deemed him to be in touch on the left wing.
The Red Devils responded well though as Josh Jones found the end of a Dobson grubber kick to score, with Gareth O’Brien successfully taking the conversion.
Greg Johnsonย gave the home side theย leadย for the second timeย as he forced his way low over the line, O’Brien converted again.
Junior Sa’u scored his second of the game in a fantastic one on one ball steal under the sticks. Just before half time an O’Brien break down the left wing and offload to Josh Griffin saw him cross. O’Brien missed the conversion this time.
Half Time Score – Salford Red Devils 28 – 12 Warrington Wolves
The Red Devils were the first to put points on the board in the second half as Gareth O’Brien kicked a penalty successfully after tempers flared in the centre of the field.
Wolves’ Ben Currie and Red Devils’ Justin Carney were both sin binned on 52 minutes.
From sixty minutes on though, Warrington Wolves were on the front foot, two quick back to back tries by Ryan Atkins put the pressure on the home side. With 66 minutes on the clock Ashton Sims barged his way over the line from a Chris Hill offload. Chris Sandow successfully kicked all three conversions to even the score.
Both Dobson and Lui attempted drop goals for the Red Devils but both attempts fell flat before Sandow sealed the victory with an impressive drop goal 35m out from the line.
