Salford Red Devils re-sign Luke Burgess
Salford Red Devils can confirm the signing of Luke Burgess for the 2018 season.
Burgess, who had a stint with the Red Devils during the 2016 qualifiers campaign, re-joins the Club as Ian Watsonβs sixth acquisition ahead of next season.
The prop-forward spent the 2017 season with French side Catalans Dragons after making eight appearances for Salford at the backend of the 2016 season.
Burgess began his career with the Leeds Rhinos before enjoying spells with both South Sydney Rabbitohs and Manly Sea Eagles where he racked up a total of 70 NRL games. Burgess has won the Super League with the Rhinos as well as playing for 2014 NRL winners South Sydney.
Watson said: βWeβre delighted to bring Luke back to the Club. Heβs going to be another big signing for us going forward.
βIβve been keeping tabs on him since Luke impressed in his spell with us at the end of 2016 and bringing him back is massive for us.
βLukeβs performance in the Million Pound Game stands out as his attitude to get a quick play-the-ball created our first try and enabled us to be able to shift the point of attack.
βIn the second half when we were low on numbers he played big minutes and when there were tough carries to be taken Luke always turned up and his desire in defence was first class.
βHe gives us even more size and power to our already solid pack and he adds a lot of experience which will help the younger lads in the squad.β
Salford Red Devils CEO, Ian Blease, said: βLuke is a great player and there is no doubt heβll strengthen our squad next season.
βHe was an excellent leader for us in his previous stint with the Club and Iβm looking forward to watching him get back out on the field with the Salford Red Devils shirt on.
βWeβre delighted to have got this deal over the line and we are close to sealing another couple of players. Our squad is taking shape ahead of next season and is already looking strong.β
