Dual-Reg/Loan Watch | Swinton Lions 18-19 Sheffield Eagles
Salford Red Devils forward Gavin Bennion featured for Swinton Lions in a thrilling 18-19 loss to Sheffield Eagles yesterday afternoon.
Bennion joined the Lions on loan last week along with prop-forward Levy Nzoungou. The Welsh international has spent time on loan with Swinton in both 2013 and 2014 and was named at prop for this weekendβs fixture.
Chris Hankinson put Swinton in front via a penalty goal, but Ben Blackmore replied with a try to put Sheffield ahead. Bennion was in the thick of the action and found himself being held up midway through the first half as he looked to restore the hosts lead.
It was Sheffield who went into the break in control, however. Blackmore intercepted a Swinton attack before racing away. The Eagles scored first in the second-half through Illies Macani to further their lead.
Tries from Craig Mullen and Chris Hankinson saw Swinton draw level at 18-18 heading into the final stages of the game. However, it wasnβt to be for the Lions as a Simon Brown drop-goal with two minutes left unfortunately inflicted a defeat on Stuart Littlerβs side.
Both Bennion and Nzoungou will be available for the Lions as they face Halifax RLFC at the MBi Shay.
Logan 100 | A breakdown of Tomkins’ 100 Salford appearances
Logan Tomkins made his 100th appearance in the 32-16 victory over Catalans Dragons on Good Friday and became just the second member of the current squad to reach the landmark behind Junior Sa’u. Following this we’ve broken down all his 100 appearances for Salford and the key stats surrounding them.
Tomkins debuted for Salford against Bradford Bulls on 11th April 2014 in a 38-24 victory. The hooker had joined the Red Devils on a temporary basis on loan from fellow Betfred Super League Wigan Warriors before the move became permanent in 2016.
Tomkins has won 45 games whilst at Salford and lost 54. Tomkins has only been involved in one draw whilst playing for Salford which came in game 6 as the Red Devils battled from behind to draw 16-16 with Hull Kingston Rovers.
Logan has scored a total of six tries for Salford with half of these coming inside his first seventeen games for the Club. Tomkins has only managed to equal this total in the 83 since. However, 50% of his tries have come against the same opposition β Leeds Rhinos; the side Logan will play his 101st Salford Red Devils game against.
Tomkinsβ most recent try came against Leeds in Round Two of the 2017 Betfred Super League at the Emerald Headingley Stadium. Five of Loganβs tries have come in the Betfred Super League while try number five came against Featherstone Rovers in the 2016 Qualifiers. This is currently Tomkinsβ longest run without a try for Salford β currently totalled at a run of 33 games.
Of his 100 appearances for Salford, Logan has started 80 of them at hooker while coming on from the interchange bench on 20 occasions. His longest spell without an interchange appearance was between 25th March 2016 and 21st September 2017 starting 53 games β in which he was selected – at hooker. Tomkins has never been an interchange for more than seven consecutive games.
The hookers longest win-streak with the Red Devils came last season as he was involved in five consecutive Betfred Super League victories between 19th March and 14th April. Salford would match this streak a few weeks later however this time it would be in all competitions with the third of the five wins being a 30-6 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup win over Wakefield Trinity.
Tomkinsβ longest losing-streak for Salford unfortunately outweighs his winning-streak and came at the backend of the 2017 season suffering seven consecutive losses in all competitions.
Logan Tomkins has only featured in four Ladbrokes Challenge Cup matches for Salford. His first was a 20-30 loss back in the 2014 competition β just his 4th game for the Club β against Widnes. Last year he was involved in Challenge Cup wins against Hull Kingston Rovers and Wakefield Trinity before a semi-final loss β game 86 for Logan – to former Club Wigan Warriors, giving Logan a 50%-win rate in the competition for Salford.
Tomkins has also featured in two Qualifiers campaigns for the Red Devils at the end of both the 2015 and 2016 season and is an ever-present for Salford in the competition. Logan has nine wins and six losses in the Qualifiers. The infamous Million Pound Game was game 64 in the red of Salford for Tomkins.
The largest victory Logan has been involved in was a 70-16 win over Featherstone Rovers – his 61st game –Β in the 2016 Qualifiers β a game in which he scored, as previously mentioned. His largest defeat came at Leeds in 2015, 70-6 in his 25th game. The highest scoring match heβs been involved in totalled 87 points in game 31 as Salford beat Sheffield Eagles in the 2015 Qualifiers 53-34. The lowest scoring match was an 8-0 loss to Leeds Rhinos at the Emerald Headingley Stadium in 2016 inΒ game 51.
Since debuting at Salford, Tomkins has featured against 18 different clubs. His most prominent opponents are Widnes Vikings whom he has faced 11 times while he has just one appearance against Halifax, Sheffield Eagles, Featherstone Rovers and Batley Bulldogs.
