SALFORD RED DEVILS AND RUGBY LEAGUE FEDERATION GHANA RENEW PARTNERSHIP FOR SECOND YEAR

We are excited to reveal we have renewed our international partnership with the Rugby League Federation Ghana for a second year.

In celebration, we are delighted to launch a brand-new Salford Red Devils x Rugby League Federation Ghana training t-shirt, in association with our official kit suppliers, VX3 apparel.

The design features the national colours of Ghana, along with a striking Kente cloth pattern celebrating the vibrant community of the nation.

Kente is a Ghanaian textile, made of handwoven cloth, strips of silk and cotton, which in the modern day, has become widespread to commemorate special occasions.

The shirt is available to purchase online HERE.

However, if you want to see the design in person, VX3 will be in attendance this Sunday when we take on Catalans Dragons and will be stocked-up with our new addition!

Late last year, as yet another sign of our progression as a partnership, we launched the Salford Red Devils Tag Rugby League Academy.

The ultimate aim is to give children in Ghanaian schools the opportunity to try Rugby League; increasing their physical activity, whilst learning the core skills of the sport, in participation with clubs established in the country.

Players identified through the Tag Rugby Academy by teachers and community coaches will be placed into the โ€˜Rising Starsโ€™ programme, offering further playing and training opportunities.

We also believe it is important to highlight the incredible projects Rugby League Federation Ghana have undertaken themselves – away from the rugby league field.

The Pad a Girl project – which began earlier this year – is helping break the cycle of poverty and improve menstrual health for young girls in schools across the country.

On the renewal of our partnership, Paul Trainor, Executive Director of Salford Red Devils, has commented: “We are delighted to renew the club’s partnership with the Rugby League Federation Ghana for a second year.

“The range of programmes being delivered across the country in schools and communities will provide strong foundations for the future of the sport. As a club, we are very excited to play our part in sharing the ‘Salford Red Devils Way’ with their players, coaches and officials!”

Andy Gilvary, Ghana National Team Coach, has added: “The year 2022 was another leap forward for the game in Ghana; with not only the hosting of the MEA Championships and the National side jumping up the world rankings, but the further outreach projects within schools and clubs that have embedded the sport in Accra and beyond.

“The Salford partnership will continue to play a pivotal role in the games growth in 2023, with more players, coaches, volunteers and supporters than ever before – rugby league is ready move to the next level.

“Welcoming the Ghana coaching staff to the Red Devils community in July will be both a highlight and certainty that the game will flourish in West Africa for many years to come!”

Remond Safi, MEA Regional Director, also said: โ€œThis partnership will pave way to a new era in RLFG and Africa.

“It will impact a rugby league culture in Ghana, capturing the raw talent of the next generation, opening opportunities for brand awareness, players, coaching/match officials and administrative pathways!”

Jafaru Mustapha, RLFG General Manager, noted: “As a country ready to achieve greater feats day in day out, the unveiling of our new shirt with Salford Red Devils, and the commencement of our 2023 domestic league is a major milestone worth celebrating.

“Thanks to all individuals and organisations that are making this partnership a reality. We are grateful!”

Salford Red Devils launch partnership with Hopwood Hall College

Salford Red Devils were pleased to take a day of their pre-season training to Hopwood Hall College earlier this week.
The Red Devils have used Hopwood Hall Collegeโ€™s excellent facilities over the past year and have now agreed an official partnership between the two parties to help bring through the next generation of Betfred Super League players.
Head Coach Ian Watson said: โ€œThis is a massive step in the right direction for the Club in our aim to produce players as a community club. Itโ€™s time we begin to get more of local young players coming through our system with the future aims of the club to have a complete pathway from school, community club, academies through to the first team at Salford Red Devils.
โ€œThis is putting us on the right path to begin this process. The fact we can introduce young players from Hopwood Hall College and Salford Red Devils Category Three Academy into first team environments to aid and assist their development is brilliant. These lads are getting rewarded by spending time in and around an environment which allows them to experience life as a professional Betfred Super League player.
โ€œThe partnership has been greatly assisted via Matt Calland who I have had a relationship with at Halifax, Rochdale and Wales. They have first-class facilities at Hopwood Hall and with Matt at the helm we know that these lads are being coached to a high standard.
Director of Rugby and Operations, Ian Blease, said: โ€œThis is a very exciting and very promising partnership, that has been worked upon for a while now.
โ€œThis is one of our key components in our five-year rugby strategy to help us nurture and create the next generation of Salford Red Devils players from the surrounding regions.
โ€œWe already have a Category Three Academy at Salford Red Devils which we value, and which will also help us bring through some strong Salford talent along with this new partnership with Hopwood Hall College and our overall rugby strategy long-term.
โ€œSalford Red Devils and Hopwood Hall College are aiming to create a career pathway for rugby talent. Hopwood Hall College captures some of the hottest talent in the Rochdale and Oldham areas and we have now put the Club in a position to access that talent.
โ€œWe are also in the process of developing further partnerships for other regions in Manchester and this will only enhance our youth development and rugby strategy. I will continue to push to make this Club stronger in its youth development, scouting, and ultimately, recruitment of local players back into the first team.
โ€œPromoting local talent has to be a huge focus of the Club going forward and itโ€™s something myself and Head Coach Ian Watson are extremely committed to.โ€
Kris Robinson,ย Centreย Director for Sportย and Public Servicesย at Hopwood Hall College, said of the exciting new partnership:
“Having a working partnership with a Super League club the size of Salford Red Devils is a tantalizingย prospect for Hopwood Hall College.
“Ourย learnersย will regularlyย get the once in a lifetime opportunity to train alongside andย learn from Salford’s high-quality players and coaching staff, the club will have an ideal pipeline for theย rugby talent ID of young sportsmen from our college. It’s the equivalent of our catering learners getting to work at the best restaurants or our businessย learnersย gaining work experienceย at blue chip companies.
“It’s also a great opportunity for the college to showcase its training andย playingย facilities,ย beingย good enough for a Super League club as established asย Salford Red Devilsย is a sign of the quality offer, we have for our learners.
“Our relationship with the club has been excellent, from the Director of Rugby right the way down, we’re really looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”
