AUGUST PLAYER OF THE MONTH NOMINEES REVEALED

It’s time for you to vote for your August Player of the Month…

With the Betfred Super League season almost over, it’s crunch time for Salford Red Devils in their pursuit of playoff rugby.

We have some big games coming up in September, but last month saw the Red Devils return to form after a six-game losing streak.

Despite a narrow loss to St Helens, we picked-up two massive wins over Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity to close out August.

Across that time, four players stood out above the rest.

Starting with new signing, Brad Singleton – who has taken to life at Salford by storm.

Since joining the club in mid-July, he has been a mainstay in Paul Rowley’s starting line-up and produced some stellar performances in the forward pack.

Next up is Oliver Partington.

It’ll come as no great shock to anyone to see the prop forward amongst the four candidates, after some high-quality minutes across the month.

After hitting 100 Super League tries and reaching 100 Salford Red Devils appearances last month, Ken Sio is your next nominee.

And last, but certainly not least, is Ryan Brierley.

He’s one of our own and continues to set the standard with some outstanding performances at fullback.

After a Rivals Round win against Leigh Leopards, the lads are already hard at work preparing for the visit of Castleford Tigers this Thursday.

It’s a short turnaround between games, but spirits are high and the squad was further boosted by the return of Oliver Partington.

February’s Player of the Month was in flying form before suffering a nasty knee injury against Warrington Wolves in early March. The team have coped well in his absence, but his comeback will be a major boost for the final two fixtures before the international break.

Here’s some of our favourite snaps from training this morning…

OLIVER PARTINGTON WINS FEBRUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Oliver Partington has been voted Salford Red Devils’ Player of the Month for February.

Our number 13 has scooped the award ahead of Tyler Dupree in close second and Tim Lafai in third, with the trio all enjoying fine starts to the Betfred Super League season.

Including two pre-season friendlies, Partington featured in all four of Salford games across February, but it was the Super League where he has really made a mark.

Dubbed ‘the flying mullet’ in the media since joining the club, Partington was incredible in our opening day victory over Leigh Leopards – making 37 tackles in just 64 minutes on debut.

He backed up that display with another solid outing against Hull KR the week after. Despite defeat, the 24-year-old was named Man of the Match.

Unfortunately, the loose forward has sustained a knee injury that will keep him out of action for an extended period of time, but his return will provide a major boost for the team later in the year.

Reacting to winning the award, Partington said: “I am delighted to have won POTM, it means a lot to me. Thank you to all the fans who voted – see you soon!”

Head Coach, Paul Rowley added: “Ollie has had a great start to life at Salford. I am really pleased for him and he is fully deserving of this award!”

A huge congratulations to Ollie for winning the award and thank you to everyone who voted!

FEBRUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH NOMINEES REVEALED

It’s time for you to vote for your February Player of the Month…

In a month where Salford Red Devils kickstarted their 2023 Betfred Super League season, three players stood out above the rest.

Oliver Partington – who join the Red Devils from Wigan Warriors in the off-season – has enjoyed a flying start to life in Red and White.

After receiving the number 13 shirt, the prop/loose forward made 37 tackles in just 64 minutes on debut against Leigh Leopards – a game Salford won 10-20. That performance also earned him a spot in the Super League Team of the Round alongside teammate, Ryan Brierley.

Tyler Dupree – our second nominee – was equally as dominant across the month. Arriving at the Salford Stadium midway through 2022, the youngster has taken the Super League by storm and showed maturity far beyond his years.

The final February nominee is 2022 Super League Dream Team member, Tim Lafai. After reaching the World Cup final with Samoa, the centre has carried his incredible 2022 form into the new season and produced two solid displays to kick-off 2023.

The vote is now CLOSED. Who has been chosen as your February POTM?

OLIVER PARTINGTON SIGNS FOR SALFORD

Salford Red Devils are delighted to announce the signing of Oliver Partington from Wigan Warriors on a two-year deal.

Partington, who can play as a prop or loose forward, has played over 70 times for Wigan since his debut in the Betfred Super League in 2018, with a Grand Final appearance and one run-out for England Knights.

Despite his age, the 23-year-old has established himself at the elite level of rugby league and will be an important part of our forward pack from 2023 onwards.

Speaking on signing for Salford, Partington commented: “I’m over the moon to have signed for Salford. After speaking to Paul Rowley, I knew it was the right place for me. I can’t wait to get going with the lads and looking forward to meeting the fans!”

On Partington, head coach Paul Rowley said: “It’s great news that Ollie has chosen our club to continue his journey. I’m looking forward to seeing him playing alongside our lads and know he will fit in perfectly.”

Director of rugby and operations, Ian Blease, added: “I’m really excited about capturing the signing of Ollie. It’s a real statement of intent getting a player of his ability, and he’ll fit straight into the culture created at our club.

“I expect him to flourish as a player and progress into competing for international honours during his time here – hopefully for a long time to come.

“When I first met with Ollie, I was really impressed with his attitude to playing rugby and it is clear he will fit right in within our incredible group.”

Partington is available for sponsorship for the 2023 season. Please email hannah.edge@salfordreddevils.net if you are interested.
