Ahead of another massive Betfred Super League clash with Hull FC, we take a look at all the facts and stats behind the fixture.
Recent meetingsย
Salford Red Devils and Hull FC have been evenly matched over the last ten meetings between the sides sharing five wins apiece.
The Red Devils came out on top in the most recent meeting with a dominant 24-8 win over Hull in March at the The Salford Stadium. Salford also earned a convincing victory over FC in the same fixture last season running out 54-18 victors at the KCOM Stadium.
However, Hull returned the favour with a 10-34 win over Salford at the The Salford Stadium before beginning their 2018 Super 8s campaign with a 32-18 victory against the Red Devils in Hull.
Salford won three consecutive fixtures against Hull FC between 2014 and 2015 โ their longest winning streak against the Black and Whites ever. A Rangi Chase drop-goal was the difference between the sides in the 2014 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup before the Red Devils won consecutive home fixtures against FC afterwards.
Try-Scoring
When it comes to crossing the whitewash against Hull FC in recent seasons halfback Rob Lui is the man for the Red Devils. Lui has scored tries in four of his last five meetings with the Black and Whites.
The โStar Manโ crossed earlier this season in the 24-8 victory at the The Salford Stadium and has also scored in each of his last two visits to the KCOM Stadium with the first coming in a ten-try triumph last season.
Marchโs meeting between the sides saw two of Salfordโs 2018 additions cross for their first tries in red. Ben Nakubuwai powered his way over from close-range to open his Salford account before Jack Littlejohn rounded off a quick break down the left-hand flank to get off the mark at the The Salford Stadium.
Hull FC scored just a solitary try in the last meeting between the clubs in March thanks to Dean Hadley however there are a couple of Hull players who enjoy playing against the Red Devils.
Halfback Albert Kelly โ who didnโt feature in the last meeting between the teams โ has crossed for three tries in his last two games against Salford. Carlos Tuimavave has scored three tries in his last three appearances versus the Red Devils grabbing a brace in last yearโs Super 8s clash.
2018 Betfred Super League Stats
Hull FCโs Fetuli Talanoa โ who the Black and Whites will be without โ is currently their top try-scorer this season (3rd in Betfred Super League) with 12 tries. Jake Bibby currently tops the ranks at Salford with seven tries. FCโs highest-scoring player named in the squad is fullback Jamie Shaul who โ like Bibby โ has scored seven times.
Logan Tomkins currently tops the ranks in terms of try-assists for the Red Devils with five. Albert Kelly is FCโs dangerman assisting nine of Hullโs tries in the 2018 Betfred Super League.
Former Red Devil Josh Griffin – who is also out with injury – is Hullโs leading metre-maker racking up 1823 metres so far this season. Salfordโs highest metre-maker is also a centre with Junior Saโu clocking 1386 metres this year.

Weller Hauraki vs Catalans Dragons –ย Club Captain Weller Hauraki got the Red Devils off to a great start at the Dacia Magic Weekend following some clever link-up play with Mark Flanagan.
Niall Evalds vs Huddersfield Giants –ย Fullback Niall Evalds beat Jordan Rankin to the ball and pulled off a stunning finish on the back of an inch-perfect kick from Derrell Olpherts.
Junior Sa’u vs Huddersfield Giants –ย The game may have been settled but it didn’t stop Junior Sa’u knocking off three Giants defenders to score in the closing stages.

Match Report | Salford Red Devils 16-24 Huddersfield Giants
Salford Red Devils fell to defeat as Huddersfield Giants came from behind to snatch a 24-16 victory on a frustrating evening at the The Salford Stadium.
Despite a brace from Junior Saโu and a further score from Niall Evalds, tries from Darnell McIntosh, Daniel Smith, Jordan Turner and Kruise Leeming ensured the visitors ran out deserved winners.
The Red Devils headed into the contest on the back of a disappointing Magic Weekend defeat five days prior, but they made an emphatic start to this one as some quick hands from Jake Shorrocks and Niall Evalds helped forge the opening for Junior Saโu to fly over in the left-hand corner.
Robert Lui was unable to land the resulting conversion and things almost turned sour minutes later when Ryan Hinchcliffe latched onto a grubber kick from Lee Gaskell, fortunately for Salford the loose-forward was unable to ground the ball before it fell dead.
Salford almost conceded a try less than two minutes later. This time, a well-worked move from the visitors opened a gap for Jermaine McGillvary to power over but a try-saving tackle from Saโu put the winger into touch to prevent the score.
Lui wasnโt to miss successive kicks though. After the visitors conceded a needless penalty in front of the sticks, Salford opted to kick at goal and the Australian stand-off comfortably slotted the ball home to increase the lead to 6 points.
The visitors responded though as Jake Mamoโs looping pass caught out a helpless Derrell Olpherts to leave Darnell McIntosh with the simple task of crossing over โ Danny Brough failed to level the scores though as his conversion fell well wide of the posts.
Huddersfield did manage to level the scores soon after however as Brough effortlessly slotted a penalty from 30m out to leave the result hanging in the balance.
Despite conceding, Salford werenโt to be undone for long as Niall Evalds claimed a sensational score. Giants full-back Jordan Rankin failed to grasp hold of the ball and Salford man Evalds somehow managed to outwit his opponent to latch onto the loose ball and touch down – Lui again failed to add the extras.
Evaldsโ effort seemed to galvanise the Red Devils as a fearsome tackle from Greg Johnson forced McGillvary into a knock-on, just when a try looked a certainty.
The visitors flew out of the blocks after the break and their endeavours paid off twelve minutes into the half as Daniel Smith powered over from close range to level the scoring.
Brough then added the extras to turn the game on its head as Huddersfield grew in confidence.
Things quickly worsened for Salford as Jordan Turner returned to haunt his former club after surging his way past several defenders to score, before Brough landed the resulting goal to give the visitors an eight-point lead.
Huddersfield put the result beyond doubt when Kruise Leeming touched down after producing a sublime dummy before Brough comfortably added the extras.
Salford were to have the final say however as Saโu bulldozed his way through three Huddersfield defenders to dive over and claim his second of the evening, before Lui landed the resulting drop goal in what proved to be the final point scoring action of the game.

We’veย got a special stat-packed ‘Factfile’ this week coveringย everything you need to know about Salford’s history at the Dacia Magic Weekend and our upcomingย fixture againstย Catalans Dragons.
Magic Weekend
Salford are one of eleven teams to have featured at the Magic Weekend on ten or more occasions. The Red Devils have competed at the Magic Weekend ten times, the same amount as Castleford Tigers and Hull Kingston Rovers.
Salford currently sit 9th in the all-time Magic Weekend table with eight points (four wins), the same as Hull FC with the Black and Whites having played one more game at the event. A win against Catalans on Sunday would see Ian Watsonโs side climb to 8th in the all-time table as they currently trail the Dragons by one point however the Frenchmen have played one more fixture at the Magic Weekend.
Salford at the Magic Weekend
Salfordโs Magic Weekend record didnโt get off to a good start with the Red Devils failing to win any of their opening four games at the event.
Warrington beat Salford in Cardiff in 2007 18-50 in a season which saw the Red Devils relegated meaning they missed out on a place in Cardiff the year after.
Once Salford returned to the top flight they suffered defeats in Edinburgh in 2009 and 2010. Harlequins beat Salford 16-24 before Warrington once again earned a dominant victory, 16-68.
Wales-based Crusaders overcame Salford 42-12 in 2011 as the Magic Weekend returned to Cardiff. However, the Dacia Magic Weekend moved closer to home and it garnered the Red Devils first win at the event as Adam Sidlowโs late try won the game 38-34 against Huddersfield Giants.
Another year in Manchester marked another victory for Salford as they edged out Widnes Vikings 28-22. However, Salford couldnโt remain unbeaten at the Etihad Stadium as the Vikings returned the favour a year later with a 30-24 win.
Widnes and Salford shared victories in the first two events at Newcastleโs St Jamesโ Park. The Red Devils won their most recent Dacia Magic Weekend fixture with a 22-36 win over event debutants Leigh Centurions in the Toon.
Catalans at the Magic Weekend
Catalans have a similar record to Salford at the Dacia Magic Weekend winning four, losing six however they have played an extra game which they drew.
The Frenchmenโs first two Magic Weekend appearances came against Harlequins RL (Now London Broncos) with a narrow 28-32 in 2007 before an even smaller margin of victory a year later as Catalans won 18-16.
In Edinburgh, Catalans suffered defeats to Leeds and Castleford before another loss at the hands of Harlequins RL in Cardiff in 2011. The Dragons finally ended their losing-streak at the Dacia Magic Weekend in 2012 as they overcame London Broncos (Previously known as Harlequins RL).
A 42-18 win over London in 2012 was followed up by an almost identical win in 2013 as they ran-out 46-18 win at the Etihad Stadium. Catalans earned a two-point victory over London in 2014 at Newcastle before a 22-22 draw with Huddersfield Giants in 2015.
Wakefield Trinity edged out the French side thanks to a monster Jacob Miller drop-goal in 2016 before Catalans lost to Huddersfield 10-18 in last yearโs event.
Scoring in Salford games at Magic Weekend
Luke Dorn crossed for Salfordโs first-ever Dacia Magic Weekend try in the 18-50 loss against Warrington in 2007. Martin Gleeson crossed in this game for Warrington and would score for Salford in the event six years later.
Dorn โ alongside Gleeson โ was a player who scored both for and against Salford at the Dacia Magic Weekend as he crossed for Harlequins RL when the sides met in 2009. Richie Myler is also amongst the list of players to score for and against Salford crossing for the Red Devils in 2009 before scoring a brace for Wire a year later in 2010.
Stefan Ratchford scored a brace for Salford in this game which he followed up with another double a year later against Warrington. Ratchford is Salfordโs all-time top try-scorer at the event with four tries.
While Ratchford sits on two doubles at the event thereโs a host of other Red Devils who have also scored braces at the Dacia Magic Weekend โ Joel Moon (2012), Jodie Broughton (2012), Adam Sidlow (2012), Jordan James (2013), Daniel Vidot (2016), Ben Murdoch-Masila (2017) and Greg Johnson (2017). Salford are yet to have a player score a hat-trick at the Dacia Magic Weekend.
However, three players have scored hat-tricks against the Red Devils at the Dacia Magic Weekend โ Michael Witt (Crusaders, 2011), Joe Mellor (Widnes, 2013) and Kevin Brown (Widnes, 2015).
Of the current squad, Greg Johnson leads the way with Dacia Magic Weekend tries sitting on three after a double last year against Leigh Centurions alongside a solitary try versus Widnes in 2015. Junior Saโu (2014), Kris Welham (2017) and Niall Evalds (2017) are the other current Salford players to score for the Club at the event.
Head-to-Head
Salford Red Devils and Catalans Dragons have had shared success in recent seasons with three wins apiece in the fixture since a memorable 40-40 draw in March 2015.
The Red Devils have won each of the last two meetings between the teams both coming in the form of dominant home victories at the The Salford Stadium โ 32-16 (March 2018), 50-12 (May 2017).
The back and forth results against each other have been a regular feature since Catalansโ inclusion into Betfred Super League with Salford winning 11, the Dragons winning on 12 occasions and there being one draw between the two sides.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the sides at the Dacia Magic Weekend.
Match Report | Salford Red Devils 38-4 Wakefield Trinity
Salford earned back-to-back victories Betfred Super League for the first time since May 2017 with an emphatic 38-4 victory over Wakefield Trinity at the The Salford Stadium.
Jake Bibby grabbed his second double in as many weeks while Junior Saโu, Tyrone McCarthy, Ryan Lannon, George Griffin and Greg Johnson all also found themselves on the scoresheet. Lui kicked two goals before leaving the field due to injury with McCarthy and Jack Littlejohn putting on their kicking boots in the second half.
Coming into the game, the Red Devils were already against it with Lama Tasi, Lee Mossop, Josh Jones, Weller Hauraki, Manu Vatuvei and Kriss Brining all sidelined however Salford couldnโt have asked for a better start.
A flowing move to the left-hand side eventually found Saโu whoโs sheer pace and power got him through the Wakefield line before he shrugged off Reece Lyne in the process of scoring. Lui converted and would add a further penalty goal midway through the half. Ian Watsonโs men defended resiliently in the first half and went into the break with an 8-0 lead.
Half-back Lui โ who had been partaking in a fitness test prior to kick-off โ pulled up with a calf injury early in the second half meaning the Red Devils had to move Josh Wood into the halves and Logan Tomkins would see out the game at hooker.
The reshuffle didnโt faze the hosts as Niall Evalds made a 70m dash from a 20m restart before being hauled down by Lyne, who subsequently slowed the tackle down and was rewarded with ten minutes in the sin-bin. McCarthy kicked his first goal for Salford to extend the advantage to 10-0.
And, it was the back-rower who went over for the next Salford try as McCarthy simply outmuscled the Wakefield defence to plant the ball down from close-range. He again followed up with the boot from in front of the posts.
Salford continued to control the game and Lannon crossed ten minutes into the second-half after being the quickest to react to a fortunate ricochet. Joe Arundel scored Trinityโs only try shortly after, but the Red Devils really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck when Bibby scored in the corner following some slick hands wide.
With just over ten minutes remaining Salford turned on the style and ran out comfortable winners. Returning forward Griffin powered his way over after the Red Devils forced an error from Wakefield bringing the ball off their own line. Littlejohn converted.
Bibby made it four tries in two games with an almost identical effort to his first of the game before Johnson rounded off a wonderful victory latching onto the ball after Saโu stabbed the ball into the in-goal.
The victory sees Salford climb above Trinity into 7th place in the Betfred Super League ahead of hosting the current leaders St Helens on Thursday.

Following yesterday’sย emphatic away victory over Huddersfield Giants we’ve rounded up the key figures in this week’s ‘Stat Pack’.
Rob Lui
Half-back Rob Lui earned yesterdayโs Man of the Match award and he is this weekโs โPlayer in Focusโ.
Lui kicked a pivotal 40/20 early in the game which set Salford off on the front foot and the Australian almost kicked another in the second half but was denied by a matter of inches.
The half-back put in ten kicks throughout the game with six of them being clever positional kicks at key times for Salford.
With 17 carries amounting to 136 metres โ the most of any Red Devil โ meant Lui was a constant threat for the Giants defence. Lui also racked up one try assist, one break pass, two initial breaks and ten tackle busts in a brilliant attacking display.
Hard yards
There were some hard yards earned all over the park by the Salford Red Devils in yesterdayโs victory against Huddersfield Giants with six players averaging eight metres or more per carry.
Greg Johnson averaged a ten-metre gain per carry helping the Red Devils bring the ball out from their own half. Jake Bibby and Junior Saโu both averaged over eight metres per carry in a physical afternoon for the backs.
Lama Tasi came on from the bench and made the impact weโve come to expect this season averaging almost nine metres per carry. Jack Littlejohn and Logan Tomkins also averaged over eight metres per carry.
Overall control
Salford were in front from the moment Mark Flanagan crossed just after the ten-minute mark and the Red Devils controlled the game from thereon out.
The Red Devils spent more time in possession than Huddersfield by almost three minutes, had a total of five more sets and completed ten more than the Giants throughout the game.
Of course, this led to more carries for the Red Devils, more play-the-balls, more quick play-the-balls and 128 more metres made.
Stat Pack | Salford Red Devils 6-22 Warrington Wolves
While the Red Devils may have suffered defeat against Warrington Wolves on Saturday afternoon there were still some impressive stats to delve into in this weekโs โStat Packโ.ย
Kris Welham
This weekโs โPlayer in Focusโ was Kris Welham who was one of the standout performers in his 200th Betfred Super League appearance.
The centre was one of the busiest players on the park in both attack and defence yesterday. Welham racked up an impressive 25 tackles which was more than any other Red Devils back.
Welham also made 14 carries โ the third highest of any Salford player โ and managed to rack up 132 metres made giving him the title of the Red Devils biggest metre maker on Saturday afternoon.
Outside backs
In fact, all four of the outside backs played their part in returning the ball and getting Salford on the front foot with each amassing over 100 metres.
As mentioned, Welham led the way with 132 before being closely followed by Derrell Olpherts โ who made his home Betfred Super League debut with 118. Jake Bibby and Junior Saโu made 107 and 101, respectively.
Saโu and Olpherts both made an impressive 15 carries in the game, Welham made 14 while winger Jake Bibby and full-back Rob Lui each took the ball up 11 times.
Mammoth defensive efforts
In the early stages of the game Warrington dominated possession which saw Salford stand tall and some of the forwards build up immense tackle numbers.
Club Captain Weller Hauraki led the way โ not for the first time this season โ with 43 tackles and was challenged by both Mark Flanagan and Josh Wood who both hit the 40-tackle mark.
Jack Littlejohn, Kris Welham, Craig Kopczak, Lee Mossop and Josh Jones all made over 25 tackles in a tough game at the The Salford Stadium. Josh Jones also had a 100% tackle rate.
Three talking points | Salford Red Devils 6-22 Warrington Wolves
Following yesterdayโs 6-22 loss to Warrington Wolves in Round Ten of the 2018 Betfred Super League we take a look at three talking points from the game.
Changes to the playmakers
Unfortunately, due to Niall Evalds being ruled out after failing a concussion test last weekend and Logan Tomkins going down with an illness, Ian Watson was forced to make changes in key positions for yesterdayโs game.
Rob Lui had to move into the full-back role and did a solid job under the high ball and even crossed for the Red Devils try after hitting an Evalds-esque inside ball.
Josh Wood moved from the halves back into the more familiar role of hooker and was another strong performer for the full eighty minutes. Jake Shorrocks and Jack Littlejohn partnered in the halves with Shorrocks settling in well on his debut.
Both Evalds and Tomkins are expected to return next weekend for the trip to Huddersfield which will mean more rotation in the playmaker roles however it will see players return to their favoured positions.
Battling front-row
For weeks weโve spoken about how the Red Devils forwards have stuck it to everyone theyโve played and this week we saw another determined effort from the front-row, in particular.
Lee Mossop and Craig Kopczak set the stall for Salford before a weighted interchange bench came on and made a further impact. Lama Tasiโs performances in recent weeks have been fantastic with the former Samoan international really coming forward as the sides enforcer out on the field.
Possible sin-bin
Warrington may have felt fortunate not to have Ben Westwood sent to the sin-bin in the second half for what appeared to be a high shot on Junior Saโu.
Saโu was on the way down in the tackle which could have tipped referee Gareth Hewerโs decision but there was definite contact with the head.
Video Referee Robert Hicks did take a look but as with all challenges when the player is on the way down it is difficult to judge whether it could be helped or not. However, had Westwood been sent for ten minutes, Salford could well have got themselves in touching distance of the Wire with a man advantage.

Head-to-head
The Red Devils managed to pull off a double against local rivals Warrington last season with a 24-14 victory at the The Salford Stadium and a dominant 12-38 win over the Wolves at Halliwell Jones Stadium.
This is the first time Salford have earned back-to-back victories over Warrington since 2006. Incidentally, this was the last time the Red Devils stringed three consecutive victories together over Warrington. Salford comfortably beat Warrington twice at the Halliwell Jones Stadium before a narrow one-point win at The Willows.
Overall, in the Betfred Super League, Salford have come out on top against Warrington 17 times while the Wolves have won 30 of the meetings. There is yet to be a Betfred Super League draw between the sides.
Try-scoring
Salford Red Devils centre Junior Saโu has racked a phenomenal scoring streak against Warrington crossing in each of his last five meetings with the Wolves.
In fact, the Kiwi has a total of eight tries in his last five games against Warrington. Saโu has actually scored three braces in this spell including one the last time the sides met at the The Salford Stadium. Saโu currently sits on two tries for the 2018 season.
Tom Lineham has crossed for two tries in his last three games against Salford while Ryan Atkins has scored in four in his last four against the Red Devils however this came in the form of back-to-back braces as the centre hasnโt scored in his last two outings against Salford.
Milestones
Kris Welham is set to make his 200th Betfred Super League appearance this weekend against Warrington.
Welham racked up a massive 166 Betfred Super League appearances with Hull KR in a nine-year stint and since arriving at the The Salford Stadium has made 33 Salford Red Devils league appearances.
For Warrington, hooker Daryl Clark could be in line to make his 200th career appearance. Clark has played 98 games for Warrington since signing for the Wolves in 2015 he has also appeared for Castleford Tigers, England and England Knights.

Josh Jones
This weekโs player in focus is second-rower Josh Jones who crossed for the Red Devils fourth try of the afternoon.
Jones, who is an ever-present so far this season, was one of three Salford players to break the 100 metres made mark alongside full-back Niall Evalds and prop-forward Craig Kopczak. Jones carried the ball 17 times throughout the afternoon.
The 24-year-oldโs power was too much for the Dragons defence as Jones made five tackle busts and managed to get away three passes. Eight players amounted over twenty tackles with Jones also falling into that category.
Defence
It was another big defensive effort at the The Salford Stadium from the Red Devils and, on his 100th game for the Club, Logan Tomkins racked up the most tackles with 33. He was closely followed by Club Captain Weller Hauraki who made 32 and was the top tackler in the last home game against Hull FC.
Kris Welham was the top tackler in the backs as he made 20 tackles while fellow centre Junior Saโu wasnโt far behind with 18. Greg Johnson, Rob Lui, Mark Flanagan and Luke Burgess all failed to miss a tackle in yesterdayโs game.
Line breaking
In our three talking points from the Catalans game we mentioned the Red Devils ability to break from anywhere on the field and the stats only back that up.
Jake Bibby and Rob Lui both made two initial breaks in the game while Niall Evalds and Kris Welham also had an initial break apiece. Ben Nakubuwai was the only forward to make an initial break in the lead up to Greg Johnsonโs try.
