Burke – “It’s somewhere we can go and express ourselves”

Salford Red Devils forward Greg Burke believes tomorrow’s Dacia Magic Weekend opener against Castleford Tigers at St James’ Park, provides the perfect tonic to put on a display for the travelling fans.

Burke, who has shared the armband with Kevin Brown over recent weeks since Lee Mossop’s retirement, has revealed that the mood in the camp this week has been positive, as the Red Devils look to build on their Bank Holiday bruising over Hull FC, in Newcastle tomorrow afternoon.

Burke said: “It’s a showcase for the Super League and we have spoken about that this week, about how it’s somewhere we can go and express ourselves.

“All the games are on Sky and we want to put in a good performance first and foremost for ourselves, but also for the fans and the viewers watching.”

Recently surpassing 200 career appearances, Burke has been a Salford player for two years now, excluding his loan spell in 2018, helping the side reach the 2019 Betfred Super League Grand Final in his first season as a permanent Red Devil, and the Betfred Challenge Cup Final last year.

Salford’s number 16 is one of the more senior players in the camp and has stepped up since Moose’s retirement.

Speaking on captaining the club recently, Burke said: “It’s been a massive honour to be seen as a leader.

“To be asked to be captain, I was happy to accept that. I’ve been really happy to be honest.”

Burke revealed that the team have been fully focused on tomorrow’s opponents, who will be fielding an almost full strength side in Newcastle, compared to the last Tigers side that were on the receiving end of a 70-18 thrashing at the hands of Marshall’s men in July.

Speaking on Castleford, Burke added: “It’ll be a massively different challenge this week. It’s a Cas team that are at the best strength they can be.

“We know we have to be on this week to give ourselves a chance, and that’s what we’ve spoke about.”

Salford Red Devils Announce VX3 Partnership

Salford Red Devils are pleased to announce a new two-year partnership with British sportswear brand VX3, in a club record kit supply deal.

As part of the partnership, VX3 will takeover the club’s retail operations and will launch a bespoke online retail experience later this year.

The partnership was struck on the back of the most extensive kit supply process that the club has conducted, involving almost thirty brands from the sports wear industry. The process was highly competitive, with VX3 impressing throughout.

To kick off the partnership, VX3 will be supplying this year’s Dacia Magic Weekend kit and purchases of this kit will be made possible soon on a microsite added to the existing VX3 website, with the bespoke retail site launching in line with the 2022 kit release.

Speaking about the new partnership, Commercial Director George Harborne stated: “I am delighted to welcome VX3 as our new kit supplier and retail partner on the back of an exceptionally competitive tender process.

“VX3 were a front runner in that process from our first conversation, and as we continued to progress discussions it became clear that they would be a great partner for the club.

“The partnership will see retail now include child and toddler kits from 2022, as well as women’s sizes across some of the range from this coming Dacia Magic Weekend, both of which were a priority for us to get right when securing a new partner.

“We are excited by the bespoke kit designs that the team have pulled together for 2022, and look forward to working with Ben and the rest of the team over the next 2 years to deliver some great merchandise for the fans.”

Ben Lovell, Director at VX3, added: “We are thrilled to be working with Salford Red Devils for the next 2 years, and on this year’s Magic Weekend kit.

“Early on in our discussions with George, we identified a number of areas that we felt we could enhance the retail offering and we look forward to developing and delivering on that over the next two years.

“Rugby league is an important sport to us, and we are pleased to add a Super League side in Salford Red Devils to our list of elite partners.”
