Congratulations, Bury Broncos!

All at Salford Red Devils send their congratulations to our Community Club partner Bury Broncos who are celebrating winning the North West Men’s League award for community engagement for the second time in four years.Β
Β
Β
The award, named after the late Steve Prescott MBEΒ is given to recognise the efforts of clubs striving to develop the game of Rugby League within theirΒ
local community, and follows a hugely successfulΒ year for the Broncos’s who became the only club in the North West to field three open-age men’sΒ teams. Β
Β
The success at this years awards follows on from Bury winning the same award in 2013, and this continued recognition for the clubs community work is of great pride to the club, says committee member Jean Palin;
Β
“It’s encouraging, we’re really proud that the effort we make to develop the game is acknowledged.”
Β
This recognition for success at open-age level is reflective of the progress that the Bronco’s continue to make as a community club, who now have 12 teams including a Masters (over 35’s) side and a growing girls section. This commitment to developing rugby league in Bury is something that Palin says the club are keen to continue;
Β
“We’re working hard to develop the youth and the junior game, and we’re always grateful for the help we get from the Red Devils through the Foundation, and for the all the help they’ve given us over the years.Β
Β
Bury have enjoyed success across the club in recent years, with open age men’s coach Dave Kelly recently winning coach of the year, and club Chairman Ryan Lewis is quick to attribute the success of the clubs to its volunteers, telling the club website;Β
Β
“Winning this award is very much down to the contributions our volunteers all made in so many ways across the last year, thanks to everybody involved at the club.”
Β
One of the next steps for the Bronco’s is developing the women’s game, and the club will hosting taster sessions at Philips High School on Saturday the 5th March.Β

Red Devils welcome NRL Grand Finalists!

The Red Devils are delighted to announce that NRL Premiership winners North Queensland Cowboys and Grand Finalists Brisbane Broncos will train at the The Salford Stadium on the 18th/19th February.
Β
On Thursday 18th February at 10am, the North Queensland Cowboys will take part in an opposed training session vs the Red Devils. The NRL Premiers side features a number of Australian and New Zealand international stars, including 2015 Golden Boot winner Johnathan Thurston who was also the man behind the phenomenal golden point drop goal that led the Cowboys to their first NRL victory.
Β
The following day, the 19th February at 10am Grand Finalists Brisbane Broncos will visit the The Salford Stadium for their Captain’s run. The Broncos side features the likes of Anthony Milford, Sam Thaiday and Corey Parker. Wayne Bennett, Head Coach of the Brisbane side and newly appointed England Head Coach will also be attendance. Former Salford player Greg Eden has also been named in the Broncos squad to face Wigan and he’ll return to the The Salford Stadium.
Β
Last year we welcomed the Broncos ahead of their victory against Wigan Warriors and the event was well attended by rugby league fans from across the country. We’re therefore excited to have both the Broncos and the Cowboys joining the team here in Salford.
Β
Red Devils Head Coach Ian Watson said, β€˜This is a fantastic opportunity for our squad to learn from some of the best rugby league players in the world. It’ll be a great experience for the whole team but especially for some of the younger squad members.’
Β
Director of Rugby, Tim Sheens said, β€˜It’s great that we’ve been able to organise these events here at the stadium. To have both teams from what is arguably one of the best, if not the best NRL Grand Final in history training here is fantastic. It’s a great chance for all fans of rugby league to come and witness these players in the flesh and see their skill.’
Β
U16s will gain free entry to both events and Red Devils Season Ticket holders can visit the training sessions free of charge. There will be the chance to watch them train, get photos and autographs with the players.
We’re also offering any fans free entry to the event on production of a ticket for this Sunday’s Widnes Vikings game here at the The Salford Stadium.
Β
Non Season Ticket holders and fans from other clubs can gain entry to the event for just Β£3 per Adult.
Β
The training sessions are extra preparation for the Red Devils side ahead of their home tie vs Widnes Vikings on Sunday 21st February, KO 3pm. Tickets for this game will also be on sale at the The Salford Stadium during the event.
