Scotland international Sam Luckley has signed for Salford Red Devils ahead of the 2021 season.

The signing of the 24-year-old on a two-year contract, follows Friday’s announcement that Joe Burgess has been added to the Red Devils ranks for next season.

Luckley said: “I can’t wait for preseason. Doing sessions with the quality of players here at Salford will help bring the best out of me.

“I’ve had insight into that with Scotland, seeing what the top players do and I’m looking forward to spending more time in that kind of environment.

“I’m going to work hard for my opportunities, and I know I need to be consistent throughout the year to put myself forward for a World Cup place.”

Luckley has been a key player for Newcastle Thunder in recent seasons and had been due to represent Ottawa Aces in 2021, before their deferral on entry into the league structure.

Red Devils head coach Richard Marshall said: “Sam is determined to take this opportunity with both hands.

“He is excited to make the step up to this level and playing and training alongside our experienced players in the forwards will help him unlock more of his potential.”

Supporters can get behind Salford’s new recruit, by purchasing 2021 season tickets early. Adult prices have been reduced across all areas, making it even more affordable to watch Luckley and his new teammates in action. Further details can be found HERE.

Director of rugby and operations Ian Blease said: “We’re pleased to give Sam this opportunity, to prove he is capable of stepping up to the elite level.

“He has been a standout individual, while playing consistently in the lower divisions and earned an international call up as a result.

“Now he has set out to develop further and become a Super League player. This is the best environment for him to achieve that.”
