Sa'u Hat-trick But Devils Fall Just Short In France

Jodie Broughton and Richie Myler both scored twice against their former employers as the Dragons secured a seventh consecutive victory, with Junior Sa’u’s hat-trick proving in vain for the Red Devils.
The visitors were in the game for large parts, moving 20-16 ahead in the 50th minute, but Catalans responded by scoring 18 points in quick succession to build a cushion that they preserved despite a late fightback.
Niall Evalds opened the scoring in the third minute, touching down in the corner following Josh Griffin’s offload from a Michael Dobson kick.

Catalans responded through Broughton, again in the corner, after a fine flowing move involving Myler, Todd Carney and Morgan Escare.
After Gareth O’Brien and Sa’u combined to send Justin Carney over in the right corner and O’Brien kicked a penalty, Catalans levelled the scores at 10-10 when Krisnan Inu, who subsequently left the field with a knee injury, broke clear and fed Escare.
Again both sides traded tries before the interval, Robert Lui creating a score from nothing for Sa’u’s first of the afternoon before Vincent Duport levelled the game up six minutes before the break following good work from Broughton and a superb wide pass from Todd Carney.
Richards converted to take the half-time score to 16-14.
Sa’u added his second effort 10 minutes after the interval, finishing a flowing move from left to right to edge Salford four points in front, but Catalans then roared into a 34-20 lead.
Myler scored twice, Broughton went over for his 13th try of the season and Richards booted a penalty.
Sa’u completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark following an error by Louis Anderson and Evalds’ second took Salford to within two points.
However, Richards sealed the win for the home side with a try five minutes from time, Thomas Bosc converting to mark his 200th appearance for the Catalans, before kicking a late penalty.
