The Salford Red Devils fell to a 38-14 defeat at the hands of league leaders Castleford Tigers at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle on Friday night.

Todd Carney came into the side, alongside Dan Murray and Jordan Walne, making his firs appearance of the season, as Head Coach Ian Watson used his squad to cover for a number of injuries.

The game started off on a even keel but it would be Castleford who scored first, Greg Eden diving over in the corner.

The Red Devils hit back instantly with a try of their own, Gareth O’Brien made a superb read with the ball in hand an exploited a gap to score.

Castleford responded with a quick-fire double, with tries from Ben Roberts and a second for Greg Eden, with Luke Gale adding a penalty goal to the tally.

With the clock ticking down towards halftime, the Red Devils cut the deficit through Kris Welham, who received the ball after a superb break from Rob Lui and scored.

Just after halftime came one of the defining moments of the match, the Red Devils moved the ball wide, and Jake Bibby looked to have scored, only for the video replay to reveal a knock on in the process.

From this reprieve, Castleford took full advantage and quickly added two more tries to their total through Monaghan and Hardaker.

Bibby did manage to make a mends for his earlier error, diving into the corner to score for Salford and keep the game alive for the Red Devils.

The Salford fans were celebrating again shortly after as Niall Evalds scooped up a dropped ball by Hardaker to reach away and score, only for the video referee to once again deny the Red Devils.

This was quickly followed by another Monaghan try, and the Tigers went to record yet another Super League win, cementing their place at the top of the table, whilst the Red Devils remain in 3rd place.

Salford Red Devils: O’Brien, Bibby, Jones, Welham, Evalds, Carney, Dobson, Tasi, Tomkins, Murray, Murdoch-Masila, Lannon, Hauraki, Lui, Griffin, J.Walne, Krasniqi
