MATCH REPORT | SALFORD RED DEVILS 18 – 36 HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS | FRIDAY 5TH JULY

A brace of tries from Tyrone McCarthy in his 100th Super League appearance was not enough to prevent Huddersfield Giants claiming the victory over Salford Red Devils at the The Salford Stadium.
Ken Sio and Kris Welham also claimed tries for the hosts, in a match where a win would have put Salford fourth in the Betfred Super League table.
McCarthy claimed his first try in the fourth minute, crashing over from a Jackson Hastings pass.
The Red Devils continued to dominate the opening exchanges. Joey Lussick and Krisnan Inu were both held up in-goal before home debutant Tui Lolohea sent play to the left flank for Sio to cross in the corner.
Matty English then marked his introduction to the field with a try to get the Giants on the board and Innes Senior combined with his brother Louis to give the visitors a two-point-lead at the break.

The Giants made a quick start following their return to the field. Darnell McIntosh claimed Tom Holmes’ kick and touched down in the 44th minute.
Salford looked to be back in the match when the video referee awarded Kris Welham a try after Jermaine McGillvary failed to deal with Jackson Hastings’ kick.
A piece of individual brilliance put the Giants back in control however, as Kruise Leeming chased-down his own kick through eight minutes later.
Ukuma Ta’ai spun in a few minutes later to extend the lead and Jake Wardle went over on a last tackle play with ten minutes remaining.
McCarthy forced his way over five minutes later, to complete his brace. This proved to be a consolation however and McIntosh finished off a Gaskell break to add to the Giants’ final tally.
