Mark Flanagan | “Consistency is key”

Yesterday Salford Red Devils forward Mark Flanagan spoke on Talksport2’s Rugby League show about the Club’s start to the season and how he can only see the side improving as the season goes on.
Mark Flanagan, sponsored by Sparta Lightning, said: “We competed really well against Wigan and tailed off in the second half.
“We had a very close encounter with Wakefield away when we actually outscored them but our kicking wasn’t on that day so we didn’t pick up the two points.
“Then we earned a good win against Hull KR but we were poor against St Helens so we’ve been in all of our games we just need to be a little bit more consistent in our performances.
“Watto [Ian Watson] is all about hard work and having the right attitude and I think we’ve got a squad that’s got that this year.
“I think as soon as the conditions start to firm up a little bit we’ve got some flair players the likes of Rob Lui and Gareth O’Brien if we can give them opportunities I think we’ll overturn a few teams this year.
“If we can start building some momentum as the season goes on and really peak at the business end of the season I’d prefer that than tailing off like we did last year.
“We’ve still got a lot of improvement in us and consistency is key.”
The former Betfred Super League winner also congratulated Niall Evalds on his inclusion in the 25-man England Knights Performance Squad.
Flanagan said: “We heard about it at training and he’s a great player Niall and a really good full-back but he’s doing a job for us on the wing.
“He’s really quiet but he goes about his business as a real professional but we’ve got some other good youngsters like Jake Bibby and Ryan Lannon who are pushing for those kind of honours.
“But, it’s a credit to Niall for what he’s done for us over the last few years.”
