IAN WATSON | “WE STARTED TO FORCE IT”

by | Jun 29, 2019

Salford Red Devils head coach Ian Watson shared his team’s disappointment after last night’s Betfred Super League match against Wigan Warriors.
The Red Devils lost out to play-off position rivals, adding further importance on Thursday’s match against Huddersfield Giants at the The Salford Stadium.
Watson said: “We’re really disappointed as a group, with what we’ve churned out. Especially in the first half, with the amount of errors.
“In the second-half, we started to force it a little bit. We started to look for offloads which went to the floor, which they cleaned up first just because they had that bit more energy than we did.
“You could say it’s progression for us as a club, that we can come here, didn’t play well and yet probably could’ve pinched the game.
“There was effort from the boys. We just couldn’t apply ourselves in the right areas, because of the lack of energy.”
Tongan international Tui Lolohea made his debut for the club after joining from Leeds Rhinos midweek.
“It was a really good first game for him. A really good first hit-up.
“Obviously our attack in good ball areas was a little bit disjointed, but he’s had one training session with us.
“He did what we asked of him and I thought he was a plus for us.”
Lolohea is expected to make his home debut at the The Salford Stadium when Salford host Huddersfield on Thursday night. Tickets for the wellbeing fixture have been reduced and are available HERE.
