Salford head coach admitted that it’s difficult developing a new half-back partnership as was the case in Friday’s defeat to Hull FC.
Robert Lui and Todd Carney played together in the halves after Michael Dobson was omitted from the matchday squad.
Watson said: “It’s always pretty difficult in these situations.
“We’ve been used to seeing Michael Dobson and Robert Lui who’ve got that consistency and continuity of playing together.
“Todd Carney and Robert Lui haven’t had that time to play together and get to know how each other plays properly.
“They’re very much like Michael Dobson and Robert Lui were last season. If you remember it was a bit clunky sometimes but at the end of last season they started to get more rhythm.
“But, the defeat isn’t about Todd Carney and Robert Lui’s partnership, we spilled a lot of ball particularly in the second half so we’ll need to look at that and fix up.”
“We had some good individual performances and that was pleasing.
“But, that’s also the problem we’ve been a group who’ve been about the team all year and the team turning up and playing for each other and playing really well.
“What we had against Hull was certain individuals playing well and some of the others didn’t really follow suit so that’s something that needs to change going forward.”
Next up for Ian Watson’s men are league leaders Castleford Tigers on Friday 11th August at the The Salford Stadium. Fans can still purchase tickets through the club ticket office, over the phone or online via the club website.
