Salford Red Devils prop Sitaleki Akauola is looking forward to returning to the Halliwell Jones Stadium and facing his former Warrington Wolves teammates for the first time since departing for the Red Devils, in tomorrow night’s Rivals Round contest.
The Tongan spent four seasons with the Wire between 2018 and 2021, before linking up with the Red Devils ahead of this season and receiving the number 8 shirt.
Akauola has featured in six out of seven Betfred Super League games so far this season for Paul Rowley’s Salford side, but tomorrow’s clash will be extra special for him.
Sitaleki Akauola said: “I’m excited, it’s going to be different.
“I played alongside the lads for four years so it will be interesting come Thursday night.”
On Monday afternoon, Akauola visited Warrington Foodbank with his old friend and former teammate, Warrington’s Jason Clark, to launch the “Fans for Foodbanks” initiative in aid of Friends of Meadowside and Warrington Foodbank – both players volunteered here during the first lockdown in Spring 2020.
This initiative will hopefully raise awareness and support for the work that both foodbanks do.
Akauola commented: “We’re going through some tough times at the moment, so if anyone could bring some tins of food or toiletries to Thursday’s game, that would be awesome.
“If anyone ever wanted to lend a hand at the foodbanks, they’d be very welcomed.”
Fans attending tomorrow’s game are encouraged to bring along any non-perishable food items (tins, packets, cartons, jars, etc), with two collection points outside The Halliwell Jones Stadium – next to the club shop and the Brian Bevan Statue. The collection points will be open from 6.30pm.
